After she hummed him to sleep she sat watch over him. All his friends slept in the living room, but he slept in his former bedroom. Sleeping peacefully, as he always did, reminded her of when he was younger.
At seven he insisted he could stay up late, even though he'd fall asleep on the couch or sometimes on the ground less than twenty minutes later. When his father took him to the playground he tried to climb up the slides backwards, then came down the slide using the ladder.
A few years later the local magic shop sparkled in his eyes. Soon he spent more and more time there than at home. Instead of his simple pants and shirt he came home in a strange bright orange suit, with a sapphire embroidered into the neck of the collar and a small cap tilted sideways on his head. His always thick and long hair would be bounded at the very end.
She worried but soon they learned to accept their son's strange behavior. Two years into his studies he decided to show off to his friends. He froze the side of the slide, but accidentally froze his finger to it too. The mage at the magic shop had to set him loose by melting the ice.
She and his father had talked to him of course about his lack of responsibility. Not long after that they sent him to the monastery to become a priest. He wasn't very thrilled but he went along with it. Later he was sent from their town to preach at Fara Fara, the same as many studying priests's fates since Fara Fara was a popular city.
With a sigh she kissed his cheek and drifted out of the room.
