Footsteps echoed down the caves. Raven hair swinging across his back, he trailed every footstep of the boy. Each echo followed suit in perfect harmony, tapping the ground softly as it rose back up to be followed by its mate. Slowly but surely he closed in on the young dwarf boy, his long legs carrying him much further then his opponent's short stocky legs.
Blacks and oak browns blurred as he sprinted from one cave to the next in desperate pursuit with his black cape flapping behind him, almost as long as his hair. Forest green sleeves wrinkled against his shoulders as he soared across the ground. One amulet bounced wildly in the air. Occasionally the swirled sun pattern clanked against the pentagon buckle of his belt. On the front of his forest green costume an orange strip was embroidered to his stomach, then curving into a "H" like pattern diagonally across his chest. Coming to a point at his elbows he wore two long black gloves which were complimented by a pair of black boots.
After a short time of running his steps came near trampling over the other boy's and he lunged into the air. Both of his arms caught the dwarf around the neck, forcing him to the ground roughly and knocking him unconscious.
With a pant and a light groan, he yanked the black jewel out of the boy's clenched hands.
"What does a ten year old want with this anyway?" he grumbled to himself, disregarding the fact that he could be mistaken for someone younger then ten by his looks. Within seconds the jewel was stripped of the necklace attached to it, leaving only it and an odd circle around it that appeared like it might go on the hilt of a sword for decoration.
Hair flipped back he smiled eagerly, reaching for his book. His fingers slid across the material of his clothes, but never found his book. In a sudden panic, he searched for the missing item. When it became hopelessly apparent that it wasn't there, he glowered furiously behind him. This meant that he left it in the city, and he had to go back to get it.
"Savages..." he thought disgustedly, "If they haven't eaten it yet I'll have to shove my way through them to grab it, then run away before they decide to eat me! It's no wonder drows have been defeated by dragons so many times when those fools can't even read. I'll be glad to get out of here and leave all of them behind."
Safely tucking the jewel out of reach, he stalked back ready to fight his way through.
