Valda climbed up to the roof of the room. Blake had her stay in Leiko's room to make space, and she didn't much care for it. Almost every room had a trap door to the roof and she hopped up it with ease, clawing her way to the top. Up here was a safety railing. Pensively she laid her arms across the top and leaned against it. Why did her aunt have to be so catty?
Droning softly she gazed up at the twinkling stars. They were bright and cheerful tonight. What was so great about that elf anyway? So far she'd heard very little from or of him.
She faintly heard the sound of someone running on the deck. As she ducked out of sight she watched curiously through the railings. Emeryl had a very solemn expression as he sprinted across the deck to the edge of the boat. For a minute he seemed about to throw himself overboard, leaning almost his entire upper body against the arch of the ship. He crumpled into a robed mass, head in arms, supported by the wall. After a minute he looked up to the shiny stars and began praying.
"Wow..." she thought, "I wonder if he comes out here for the same reason as me. One day I'll find the right man. That's so romantic..."
Not long after he came out Blake followed.
"Daddy!" she screamed in her head as he interrupted her perfect daydream, "I'm not a kid anymore, I can date who I want! Why won't you listen to me?"
Folding her ears back she scampered back through the trap door and disappeared from view.
