They'd been sailing for a few hours, evening was coming on them. Earlier they past a boat wreck. The boat was in pieces, only a few floating ones were left and no people were to be found. Again Lirit brought up the subject of the ocean being haunted. Emeryl denied it, again.
Remus took the steering wheel to sail for his part of the day. Lirit would steer after him, then they'd start over again. He was surprised by the size of the boat, they had plenty enough room for all of them. Instead of a small fishing boat like he expected it seemed more like a boat that required an entire crew.
As a light fog thickened over them he noticed Lirit when she appeared right next to him.
"Keep steering straight." She plainly said.
"How am I suppose to steer? I don't even know if the boats moving!" Remus winced at the compass.
"Emeryl and Kern are going to adjust the sail, just pay attention so we don't end up off course." She answered.
He nodded grimly and winced more at the compass. Somehow he felt Lirit wanted company. Most likely so she wouldn't be alone if there really were ghosts, which Emeryl insisted there weren't besides that strange white boy.
As he stared tiredly at the compass he noticed it darken. The thick fog was annoying enough, the last thing he needed was for the light to disappear.
Glaring hatefully at the fog he noticed something above them. It's wooden texture could barely be made out through the clouds blanketing their ship. Nudging Lirit next to him, he pointed up at it.
      "What is that?" he asked.
"How should I know? I'll go get a torch." She disappeared into the mist. A second later she came back with a lighter and tried to set the slightly moist torch on fire. After a few attempts it finally gave in and she held up the fire in the fog.
Now he could see Kern and Emeryl faintly at the mass. Above them the huge underside of a ship overshadowed their deck. Fog wilted around the eerie ship floating in the sky, and all Remus could do was look to Lirit with a blank expression.
"I told you guys it was haunted!" Lirit jogged to the middle of the deck. Kern drew his gun which glimmered against the light of the torch. Glancing around, Remus knelt down and pulled a small pistol out of his boot. The ship flying above them steered parallel to theirs. From the side they could see a few figures romping about.
Kern yelped as a man came down on him unexpectedly from the foggy shadows. One khopesh smacked his gun away while the dark stranger quickly trapped Kern against the ground. Two more figures leapt down. Remus shot at one of them. She didn't bother to dodge the stray bullet as she lunged at Remus and knocked the wind out of him.
The third figure landed gracefully on the deck. A small necklace dangled out of her hand and shimmered in the light as she pointed to the other side of the ship. Streams of fire spewed out and set aflame the other half of their ship.
Lirit charged at the sorceress with sword in hand but was intercepted by two more large figures. As she struggled to break through them Emeryl knelt near the fire. Quietly he mumbled an enchantment as ice whispered out of his fingers. The ice spread over the fire and strangled it into nothingness.
A large clang sounded as Lirit's sword flew by Emeryl's head. The sword slid off the ice towards the edge of the ship. With wide eyes Emeryl dove after it.
"Alan!" he screamed as he hit the wooden fencing around the ship and the sword slid through. Desperately he grabbed the air in hopes that somehow the sword got caught on the edge of the ship.
Suddenly he felt his hand hit cold metal, and grappled the handle of the sword. Confused, he looked to see how the sword didn't fall to meet the gaze of his sapphire eyed companion levitating by the ship.
Silently he mouthed "Thank you Maskini" as the ghost dissipated into the air.
On the back of his neck he felt the sting of a cold blade. Very slowly he rolled over with the sword, meeting the sniggering pirate face to face.
"An elf? Out here at sea?" the man paused at seeing Emeryl clearly. Getting a clear view of the man, Emeryl could tell that he was a drow elf, with baggy gray clothes draped around him and two large, rounded blades in hand.
"You are pirates who guard the sea, I suppose? I have to speak to your captain." Emeryl whispered as loud as he could.
